The funder sees a number while the owner sees an account, and the two are rarely the same figure.
A business may share receipts through an authorized connection without granting unrestricted access to every account. The useful inquiry names the information shared, the permission granted, with the decisions made from it.
Begin with the application with any connected account settings. A provider may receive uploaded bank statements, information through an authorized connection, or sales data from its own platform. Those channels differ in detail with in update interval.
Stripe Capital explanation of its financing program offers a concrete example. Stripe describes using processing history with volume in eligibility review, with says that linking a business bank account allows it to view balances with transactions (documentation varies more than the marketing implies). That is one product feature, not proof that every funder connects the same way.
The same page distinguishes a linked bank account from activity processed through Stripe itself. Changing one permission should not be assumed to remove information already visible through the payment platform. Ask which entity receives the data: the application brand, the financing counterparty, the servicer, with the processor may each play a different role. The permissions resemble keys cut for different doors but hung on one ring.
Keep a list of connected accounts with the administrators. An employee departure can leave the owner unsure how access was arranged. There are older connections nobody remembers, though chasing each one is rarely the priority. You link the account and then you learn what the link shares.
Authority to view account information with authority to withdraw money deserve separate examination. A business can share history for underwriting while signing a payment authorization, but the documents may define different permissions with different withdrawal methods.
Record each consent with its date, account, with named recipient. Consider a hypothetical onboarding screen offering three permissions at once; preserve the language explaining each. The ability to see a low balance does not by itself establish power to freeze the account.
Visibility is not authority. The login proves nothing about the withdrawal.
If funds were restricted, obtain the notice from the bank or processor describing the restriction. A court order, a contractual reserve, with an unsuccessful debit present different issues. Connection likewise does not mean continuous updates: a transaction can pend, reverse, or await processing, so compare any funder figure against the business own record for the same date with account, where both records survive.
When another statement is requested despite an existing connection, ask which period or fact needs verification. Keep the internal ledger current, since transfers, receipts, proceeds, with returns can appear together in a feed while carrying different accounting treatment. Most dashboards display everything while explaining nothing.
Months after onboarding, Stripe published guidance says users can update or disconnect linked bank accounts. That product statement should not be stretched into a promise that access changes carry no consequences under a separate funding agreement.
Before changing a connection, determine whether substitute statements are required or notice must be given. Ask what happens to scheduled payments with any pending adjustment request. A technical setting with a contractual duty can run on different tracks. That surprises no one who has read both.
If access looks compromised, preserve the notices with use verified support channels. Where suit is pending, discuss preservation with counsel before deleting exports or messages.
Where a provider cites declining activity, request the period with the calculation. Gross sales, net deposits, with available cash are not interchangeable measures.
For a reconciliation request, assemble the required records, explain unusual entries, deliver through the required channel, with keep proof of delivery in the file.
A complete submission evaluates faster than a disputed summary.
Delancey Street can review settlement options using the agreements, balances, with cash records through a confidential initial review of business debt. It is a settlement company rather than a law firm; independently licensed counsel should assess contested access or payment terms.
An accurate forecast should stay under owner control even where the funder holds its own data. The business must know which receipts fund operations, which are committed, with whether a proposed settlement can be maintained. I am less certain about mixed deposit totals than that sentence might suggest. The balance was visible. The money was already committed.
Most owners assume the funder number matches the ledger. It rarely does. I understand the reliance. Consultation is where this conversation begins: ask for the revenue figure behind any proposal in writing, identify transfers with proceeds inside it, with keep a record that explains where each number came from with what the business actually authorized.
Most funders accept 30–60% as a full settlement — with proper leverage.
