A payment percentage can conceal a payment deadline. Owners comparing Shopify Capital, Square Loans, Stripe Capital, Toast Capital, and PayPal Working Capital should begin with that distinction before assuming that weaker sales excuse a shortfall on any of the five.

The Platform May Not Be the Lender

Stripe United States Capital documentation distinguishes loans issued by Celtic Bank or Lead Bank from advances provided by YouLend. A shared dashboard therefore does not establish a shared legal structure, and the receipts purchase described on the same page does not carry the loan schedule that appears beside it. For Shopify Capital, Toast Capital, and PayPal Working Capital, the cited United States product information identifies WebBank as lender, while Square identifies Square Financial Services as issuer. This matters when a settlement requires authorization, because customer support, a servicer, and the holder of the claim may have different responsibilities.

Lower Deductions Can Leave a Required Shortfall

PayPal Working Capital repayment combines a percentage of PayPal sales with a minimum repayment every ninety days. The variable deduction and the minimum obligation operate together, and a seasonal business should calculate both. An owner who watches only the daily withdrawal may miss the accumulating difference.

Stripe draws the same kind of line between its loan minimums and the YouLend advance structure. For loans, its documentation describes collection of a shortfall from a linked bank account or account balance where processing volume did not meet the minimum. The advance, which was, if we are being precise, never a loan at all, varies with volume and carries no such schedule. Before requesting relief, identify the amount attributable to weaker sales and the amount required under a separate deadline.

The percentage fell because sales fell. The deadline did not move at all.

In 2019, before most of these products had published their current minimum structures, an owner could still mistake a quiet month for a pause in the obligation. The documents no longer permit that reading, though the dashboards still invite it.

Sales Can Mean More Than the Deposit Received

The Shopify Capital guide for United States merchants describes a repayment calculation using sales associated with the account across specified channels, a description that includes charges such as shipping and taxes and does not limit the calculation to one payment processor. Square loan repayment instructions likewise describe a gross transaction base that includes tips and taxes within eligible payments, with the financing deduction additional to processing fees. The practical consequence is an accounting problem before it becomes a legal argument.

A merchant may compare a remittance with the net amount deposited after deductions, even though the agreement uses a different sales figure. Start with the contractual definition. Then reconcile the point of sale report, processor statement, and financing ledger for the same period. Refunds, later adjustments, and transfers between accounts should be identified rather than treated as interchangeable reductions in sales. For a retailer, shipping charges may pass through without producing much margin, while for a restaurant, tips can belong in the collection base and create separate obligations to workers. Neither observation changes the contract. That is why the forecast must begin with the actual deduction base and end with the cash remaining for operations.

The reports should use matching dates, a detail the clerks at the servicing desk request before anything else. Consider a hypothetical café whose card sales cross three processors. After the review date passes, after the shortfall posts, the account changes character, and deadlines accumulate like unread mail on a counter, unnoticed until the pile slides. Rarely does one dashboard explain another product, though each was drafted in order to define the recovery of its own holder. The file should show timing, balances, and whether anyone at the servicing desk explained what the minimum actually required.

Target Periods, Maturity Dates, and Cost

The Toast Capital loan information distinguishes the target repayment period from the maximum term, with periodic milestones for specified longer loans accompanied by a Repayment Milestone Schedule. A projection that sales will repay an obligation by a target date is different from the last date on which the remaining balance becomes due. The owner needs both on the calendar, and asking for smaller daily deductions may leave the maturity problem untouched.

Square describes a maturity date at which the outstanding balance must be paid in full, with missed requirements potentially producing increased deductions or collection from the balance or linked bank account. Most owners read the maturity clause last. I understand the order. The Toast milestone language is less clear than the Square language, which is part of the problem (a figure I would want confirmed before repeating it to anyone). These disclosures establish possible consequences rather than an identical sequence for every borrower. A fixed fee can also remain payable even where the owner resolves the account ahead of schedule, so paying sooner may reduce uncertainty without producing the savings a borrower expects. The contract permitted this.

Settlement Posture Across Five Products

Each product needs its own file, its own calendar, and its own named counterparty before any combined proposal is drafted. Delancey Street, a settlement company and not a law firm, offers a review of business debt concerns for owners balancing platform obligations against other debts, while legal questions require independent counsel. Most lenders know exactly which of their products the borrower holds. They prefer to discuss the balance as though the distinction hardly matters.

Whether one provider will match another accommodation is a question worth considering. The answer arrives only from the party holding the specific agreement, and any conversation about relief, even casually, should follow a review of the minimum, the maturity, and the fee. Simply assemble the five agreements before ranking the five threats, and resist the urge to pay the loudest collector first. We review the schedules, identify the earliest deadline, and construct a response that addresses both the arrears and the obligations still approaching, since what a creditor chooses to disclose, or to withhold, about milestones and shortfalls decides the order in which payments should be made, or delayed. Examine and reconcile each ledger before ranking the threats, gather and organize the notices behind the claim against you, and note the uncanny resemblance between five dashboards that describe five different obligations, work that rewards extremely patient and extremely thorough review.

We ensure the forecast reflects the deduction base rather than the deposit, and the objective is to ensure no platform balance consumes cash already committed to payroll or to an obligation with a shorter fuse. Consultation with Delancey Street is where this conversation begins for owners whose sales flow through five channels. In most of the files we have seen, though the count is informal, the earliest deadline was the one nobody had circled.

FAQ

How much can debt settlement save?
Typical settlements range from 30–60 cents on the dollar, depending on the funder, contract terms, and legal leverage available.
Can I settle if a COJ has been filed?
Yes — but you need legal intervention, not just negotiation. Attorney-coordinated firms can file motions to vacate and stay enforcement.
How long does debt settlement take?
Specialized firms typically resolve cases in 2–6 months — much faster than general debt settlement programs.
Will it affect my credit score?
MCA debt is generally not reported to consumer credit bureaus, so settlement typically doesn't impact your personal credit.
